2016 - One Lousy Year

Now, just a handful of days left until 2016 is finally over and again so much bad things accrued. And I start to wonder if bad things have been happening all along yet we never seemed noticed. Is it the media nowadays who keeps pointing out the bad in the world just for a few clicks or is humanity who has left its humanistic peak to fall back into the cavemen days?

We don't even have to look that far back. War has always been humanity's faithful companion. It almost seems as if we aren't able to overcome our rudimentary roots which helped us survive in a hostile world. Of course the world is still a hostile place in a lot of countries but why aren't we focussing on developing agricultural methods instead of perverse war machines.

I just wonder why a being with the great gift of wisdom, knowledge and the possibility of reflecting ones actions isn't able to see that fighting and killing is no way to change the world for a better. Terrorism, especially this year, has been taking the world's mind hostage. It smoothed the way for a president that surely won't be a great benefit for the environment, peace or a culture of solidarity and individuality. It robbed our feeling of safety. Popped that perfect bubble that the western world had built up after the cold war. We have been living on a small sheltered island until our foreign politics backlashed right into our faces.

This is it. This is where we are standing. But where do we start. Where can we go from here? Of course we could revenge those who we claim to be the source of all the fear now. Bomb the countries and kill the people we claim as the enemy. But by killing them fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, lovers die. People with broken hopes and hearts are left back. People who are willing to revenge their broken lives. It's a never ending cycle of terror and hate in which empathy vacates the stage.

But the cycle has already begun and I see no end to it. I keep on hoping on a miracle when humanity stands united. Where world peace isn't ridiculed as a Utopia. Why isn't it possible to create a world nurtured in love? A world in which we all focus our technological knowledge to cure cancer, help paraplegic people feel and move their body again. I still belief in this Utopia because I am not willing to give up on the hope that the future generations won't wake up in a wasteland.
